Covid-19 Pandemic
After attending a World Health Organization briefing in January 2020, I began manually tracking and monitoring the coronavirus epidemic as it spread through China and began to make its way through Europe. What started as a manual log of every global case and death became a full scale data mining project across both the broadcast and digital arms of NBC News. I worked with our Real Time Graphics team to create a centralized database (based off of Johns Hopkins University’s API and independent NBC News reporting) that feeds an entire system of live broadcast graphics. In addition to this, I worked with the NBC News Digital team to create a centralized system for graphing and tracking cases, deaths, and testing data for all charts and graphs used across NBC, MSNBC, and nbcnews.com.
